So what do you consider yourself? a pessimist? an optimist? or somewhere inbetween?

I consider myself a "realist", someone who recognizes both the good and bad things in the world, equally.

A realist with optimistic tendencies.

I like to think of myself as a realist, but more toward the pessimistic side of things.

The world around me and my own bad luck coupled with the insane pressures of life make it hard to be optimistic.

Since we're all adding qualifiers, I'm a 'realist - stressed out'.

I am probably somewhere in between. I have had times when I aam extremely pessimistic, but generally I don't really look ahead. Live life for the now and thus Optimism and Pessimism have no real meaning imo

You know, that is exactly right. I think that's why I am so stressed out lately. I am at the point of exasperation because my whole life I have lived in the 'now'...and suddenly, violently I am forced to shift my focus into the future.

I am not used to that, nor am I any good at it.

I'm a realist......I believe we have power to change only what is meant to be changed and that all thing's happen for a reason even if we don't understand at the time....

I guess I am what you call an eternal optimist
I think it comes from living with a pessimist my entire life (my mum) Though while I can see the best of everything I can also see reality for what it is though I still like to see the best of it, lol.
My mum who is a perfect example of a pessimist is depressed all the time meanwhile I find it hard to sympathise and get impatient with her trying to help, I guess we all have our quirks and all

I am a pragmatist who has always taken life as it happens. As in bridge, I play the cards I am dealt.

Some people I know, when tough times come along, ask, "Why me?" I am more inclined to ask, "why not me?" I am not the only one who experiences tough times on occasion, and these tough times are offset by great times. It is just a matter of working things out.

I swing a little each way. Most often than not I take a more pessimistic view on life.

I swing both ways as well, but I'm trying to change my thought patterns to realistic ones. It's a much healthier option.
